Emotional eating, binge eating, and food addiction are often connected by cycles of shame, guilt, secrecy, and fear of judgment, leaving individuals struggling in isolation. In many Arab contexts these difficulties are framed as issues of willpower, increasing stigma and silence. This presentation explores the use of the here and now in therapeutic groups to address shame, control, and fear of judgment. Since 2021, we have conducted five in-person groups (10 members each) met weekly for 16 weeks, integrating psychoeducation with CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and emotion-focused work. By exploring emotional and relational dynamics as they emerge in the group, members move from secrecy and self-criticism toward greater openness, compassion, and healthier relationships with food and self.
